The ASD Registry is a partnership between the London Region Chapter of Autism Ontario and the London Police Service. The Registry promotes communication between individuals with ASD and the people who support them, and the police. The Registry enables police to have quick access to critical information about a registered person, such as who to call in an emergency, a detailed physical description, and any particular sensitivities that the person with ASD may experience. This information will assist officers when responding to an emergency involving a person with ASD.
The Registry will also provide the London Police Service with information that would assist in identifying and locating missing persons with autism. All the information contained in the Registry will be given to the Police Officers involved in looking for the missing person.
If the registrant is found wandering and is incapable of communicating his or her name to an officer, the Registry will be used to identify the individual more quickly. The London Police Service will use the contact information to connect with parents/guardians.
To become part of the Registry, the person with autism or their parent/guardian can complete the registration form. This can be done online or by contacting the Family Consultant/Victim Services Unit (FC/VSU) with the London Police Service at 519-661-5636. A Consultant will be pleased to assist with completing the form.
The process will be completed as soon as possible, but will depend on available staff resources. The goal is to complete the registration within two (2) weeks of submission. Once complete the information will be easily accessible to all London Police Service personnel who may be in contact with you.
