ATV’s On The Road

(SOUTH BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On March 27th, 2011 at 12:45 am, the South Bruce OPP received a report of an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) being driven along Clinton Street South in the town of Teeswater. The person operating the ATV wasn’t wearing a helmet. The South Bruce OPP is reminding ATV owners and operators of the requirements under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, Regulation 316/03:

ATV’s can’t be ridden on the road unless permitted under bylaw; riders are encouraged to check on this with their local municipal office.
Where an ATV is permitted on the roads, the operator must have at least a G2 or M2 licence.
A vehicle permit and proof of insurance are required.
Speed limits. An ATV is restricted to 20 km/h where the posted limit is 50 km/h or less. An ATV is restricted to 50 km/h, where the posted limit is greater than 50 km/h.
An ATV operator must wear an approved helmet on the roadway.
The ATV must be driven along the right edge of the roadway.
