On September 11, 2016 at approximately 10:20 p.m., a 67-year-old Guelph male was operating an Arctic Cat 700 four wheel ATV on a rural residential property west of Gordon Street near Maltby Road. He was accompanied on the machine by two male children ages 6 and 8. As the driver attempted to drive up an incline, the machine lost traction and rolled down that incline coming to rest partially on the adult driver.
The incident was witnessed by a family member who took the children to safety and called emergency services. Guelph Wellington Paramedics and Guelph Fire attended the scene with Guelph Police. The man was transported to Guelph General Hospital suffering from a severe leg injury. The two children were also transported to hospital with one suffering abrasions and the other as a precautionary measure.
The investigation is continuing and no charges are anticipated at this time.
