(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – On January 2, 2012 a resident from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, ON reported to Huron OPP officers that he received a suspicious letter in the mail. The letter was received from a purported law firm in Malaysia. 50% of a 9.8 million dollar inheritance would be provided if he provided personal banking information. This letter was recognized as a scam and no response was sent.
The Huron County OPP is asking residents to beware of unsolicited letters, faxes or emails. Technology allows scammers to become more creative, but don’t be fooled. If it sounds too good to be true, it likely is. Hang up the phone, delete the emails and shred the letters or faxes. If you don’t respond, you don’t get scammed.
