On February 16, 2017 at 4:10 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police received several calls regarding a disturbance on Sydney Street North in Kitchener. Police responded and determined that a man had attempted to light a residence in the area on fire. When police arrived, officers noticed the man was covered in gasoline. He threatened officers, stating that they would get hurt if they attempted to touch him. Officers were able to quickly arrest the man. A 59-year-old Waterloo man has been charged with attempt arson-endangering human life, possession of an incendiary device, uttering threats, breach of probation, assault police and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
