(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Members from the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit are currently investigating an attempted robbery that took place last night in Exeter.
At approximately 7:50 p.m. a lone masked male entered into Exeter Variety located on Wellington Street West in Exeter. Once inside the suspect displayed a firearm and demanded money from the cash register.
At that point a physical altercation ensued which resulted in the owner sustaining minor injuries. Ultimately the suspect’s demands were not met and the suspect fled the store. He ran from the store heading westbound on Wellington Street whereupon he hopped into the passenger side of a Ford Ranger pickup truck. The pickup then sped off at a high rate of speed heading northbound on William Street.
Despite extensive patrols in the area, police have been unable to locate the suspect vehicle. OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) later attended the scene to assist with the crime scene investigation.
The suspect is described as a white male, between 5′ 7 to 6′
