Occurrence Type: Attempt Theft from Dealership
Occurrence #: BA16030957
Date: Wednesday, June 22, 2016 – 1:50am
Barrie Police were called to a local car dealership after cleaning staff saw a male enter a vehicle in the parking lot, put on his seatbelt and attempt to start the car.
On Wednesday, June 22nd, 2016 at 1:50am Police were called to some suspicious activity at Douglas Ford located at 379 Bayfield Street, in the City of Barrie. Upon arrival they spotted the suspicious Mustang with a single male in the drivers seat with the brake and headlights flashing on and off. When approached, the male had his seatbelt on and was attempting to start the car with the push start button. Luckily enough for Douglas Ford the male did not have the key fob that would have started the car for the thief.
When Police removed the male from the vehicle, placing him under arrest, he informed officers he was going to warm up the car before his test drive with the manager in the morning. If, however, his story was truthful he was approximately five hours early for the test drive and the manager was not aware of the appointment.
The 35-year-old Barrie male was charged with Attempt Theft of Motor Vehicle as well as Fail to Comply with Probation Order from a previous theft charge. He was held at the Barrie Police Service pending a bail hearing Wednesday morning.
