On March 3rd, 2014 at 11:45 a.m., members of the Waterloo Regional Police responded to a rooming house on Hohner Drive in the City of Kitchener for reports of a male armed with a knife and threatening to harm himself. The residence was contained by patrol officers while members of the Emergency Response Unit negotiated with the male. After approximately 2 hours, the subject surrendered into custody without necessitating any use of force and was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. The subject was taken to Grand River Hospital and held for a psychiatric assessment. No one was injured during the incident.
