(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Monday September 20, 2010 the Perth County OPP in West Perth was advised that damage had been done to one of the hand carved wooden Herons in Mitchell. The beautifully carved damaged heron which is approximately 6 feet in height sits atop a poured concrete slab and is located on the south east side of Blanshard St. and Huron Rd. in the Howie Morenz Memorial Garden.
From information obtained it appears that the mischief occurred sometime after Labour Day. A saw would have been used to cut off the heron’s beak.
This statue is an expensive hand carved piece of art which is representative of the Mitchell and area wetlands and rivers. Anyone who has information on this senseless vandalism is requested to contact the Perth County OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or you can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-2220-TIPS.
