Arrest of Ottawa man in relation to stolen vehicle and police pursuit

(Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Service has arrested an Ottawa man this morning that fled police in a stolen vehicle.

At 1:17am, a Patrol officer identified a stolen vehicle on Highway 417 westbound in the area of St-Laurent Blvd. The officer made several attempts to conduct a traffic stop near Mann Avenue and King Edward Avenue. The vehicle failed to stop for police and the officer disengaged for safety reasons.

The suspect’s vehicle was later observed on Laurier Avenue where a spike belt was successfully deployed. The suspect’s vehicle continued with two flat tires through the ByWard Market going Eastbound on Rideau Street, then came to rest after colliding with a taxi cab and a police vehicle at the intersection of Rideau Street and Dalhousie Street.

The suspect was arrested after a short foot pursuit. There are no injuries reported.
