BREAK IN TO STORAGE FACILITY
(ST.MARYS, ON) – On Thursday August 25, 2016, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to the St.Marys Mini Storage facility on James St. South in St.Marys where a break-in to storage units was discovered.
Investigation revealed that sometime between the evening of Wednesday August 24th and Thursday morning 8 a.m. an unknown culprit cut the back fence (north-west corner) and gained entry into the compound. Once inside, 24 storage unit locks were breached, entered and rummaged through. Five recreational camper/RV’s which were parked inside the compound were forcibly entered and searched through.
The culprit appears to have left the property through the same hole in the fence, where a four wheeled ATV was used to leave the scene. Tracks of the ATV indicate that it proceeded south towards Elginfield Road and drove parallel to it in a westerly direction. It crossed the railway track and continued westbound on the north side of Elginfield Road. Just before reaching Water Street the ATV crossed Elginfield Road and drove in the direction of Wellburn Road where it may have proceeded southbound towards Wellburn.
The storage company and the affected storage locker tenants are attempting to determine if any contents of storage units have been removed.
The Perth County OPP is requesting anyone who may have observed a suspicious person or ATV’s in the area of the St.Marys Mini Storage facility, or who observed an ATV along Elginfield Road (Hwy 7) during the time in question, to contact them at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000
