On Monday, March 23rd just after 8:00 p.m., members of the Brantford Police Emergency Response Team and Patrol Officers responded to the area of 50 Market Street South in regards to a male possibly in possession of a firearm.
Upon arrival, police cordoned off a section of the plaza parking lot while attempting to negotiate with the male. After approximately two hours of negotiations, the male fled the scene in a vehicle.
Police pursued the vehicle onto Highway 403 towards Hamilton. The suspect’s vehicle came into contact with a pursuing officer’s vehicle on Highway 52 and the pursuit ended. The male was taken into custody. No one was injured in the incident.
The weapon involved in the investigation was located and determined to be a replica firearm.
Police have charged a 29 year old Brantford man with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Flight from Police, and Dangerous Driving.
