On November 30, 2016, at 6 a.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to an apartment building on Victoria Street South in Kitchener after receiving a report of a break and enter. The buildings manager was in the storage room when he was confronted by a man who pulled out a knife. The manager fled. Various tools were taken, although some of them were recovered nearby by police. The suspect is described as a white man, about 30 years old, five-feet eight-inches tall with a medium build. Two other men are also believed to have participated in the break-in. They wore dark clothing and were both carrying backpacks.
