Another Stolen Pickup Recovered

(ST.MARYS, ON) On Sunday morning February 20, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., Perth County OPP officers in St.Marys were called to a residence on Elgin St. W., where a vehicle was found abandoned on a residential driveway with the keys in the ignition.

While police were attending at Elgin St. W., an Ontario St. resident contacted police, advising that a pickup truck had been stolen from their garage. Police confirmed that the abandoned vehicle was the stolen pickup truck from Ontario St.

The stolen pickup truck had been parked in the owner’s garage with the keys of the truck left on a work table in the garage. The truck was driven away sometime between 7 p.m. on Saturday February 19, and 10 a.m. Sunday February 20. The truck owner had also left a wallet in the truck from which $30 in American currency was removed. The wallet was recovered and all the personal documentation was found intact. It was determined that the truck had been driven in excess of 200 km by the culprits.

This is the second such theft/recovery of a vehicle in St.Marys in three days. In both instances the thefts were opportunistic, with garage doors open or unlocked and keys left in the ignition or beside the vehicle. The public is urged to secure their vehicles and remove their keys. If suspicious persons are observed in your neighbourhood call the police immediately.

The Perth County OPP is also requesting anyone who may have information about these thefts to contact them at 1-888-310-1122 or to call CRIME STOPPERS at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
