HURON OPP INVESTIGATING HOME INVASION ROBBERY

(HURON EAST, ON) – The Huron County OPP Detachment crime unit is currently investigating a home invasion robbery that took place on Winnipeg Road in Vanastra on September 26, 2012 at approximately 2:15 p.m. . Officers have learned five males were at the residence completing a break, enter and theft when the home owner and another male returned to the residence and caught them in the act.

The suspects identified themselves as police officers and attempted to arrest the homeowner using handcuffs. The owner became suspicious and a brief struggle ensued. One of the suspects then sprayed the victims with pepper spray and at that point the suspects fled the residence in a dark blue 2005 Ford Crown Victoria. The look-a-like police car had tinted windows and a side spot light attached to the driver’s side.

The suspect vehicle was stopped by Lambton County OPP officers just after 3:30 p.m. on Confederation Line west of Watford. Officers arrested both occupants in the vehicle and were able to recover some of the stolen property.

As a result of the investigation Huron OPP have arrested and charged two males:

Andres PAVAO, age 23, from Windsor, ON and Vasile HERTA, age 52, also from Windsor are both charged with the following offences:

Break and Enter -Commit Indictable Offence contrary to section 348 (1)(b) Criminal Code
Robbery contrary to section 344 (b) Criminal Code
Personating Peace Officer contrary to section 130 Criminal Code
Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon contrary to section 91(2) Criminal Code
Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to section 88 Criminal Code
Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to section 5 (2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Both are in custody and have court appearances scheduled for October 1, 2012 Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
