ALPR Helps Catch Drunk Driver

An expired validation sticker has landed a man in criminal court. On Tuesday, July 26, 2016, around 2:15 p.m., a South Simcoe Police constable was patrolling Bradford when the Automated Licence Plate Reader in her vehicle alerted her to an expired licence plate sticker on a passing van. She stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, noting the odour of alcohol on his breath. He was given a roadside screening device test then taken to the station for further testing. A 60 year old man from Newmarket has been charged with Drive Over 80 mgs. His licence has been suspended for 90 days and his car impounded. He will appear in court in August.

South Simcoe Police are determined to eliminate impaired driving in your community. You can help by calling 9-1-1 if you see a person you suspect of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
