Police are notifying residents of the Listowel area, northwest of Waterloo, that a man who is considered at a high-risk to reoffend will be living in their community.
Robert Joseph Van Braeckel, 46, has previous criminal convictions for sexual assault, indecent assault, assault causing bodily harm, weapons possession, unlawful entry, assaulting police, theft, and numerous driving offences.
He is on probation until May 27, 2013.
Van Braeckel is required to “keep the peace and be of good behaviour,†according to police.
This means he must abstain from purchasing, consuming or owning drugs, alcohol and other intoxicating substances, with the exception of prescription drugs.
Van Braeckel may not own, possess or carry any weapons, prohibited devices, ammunition, or explosive substances.
He is not to associate with any prior victims.
He is required to report in to the Perth County OPP as well as maintain communication with probation and parole officers.
The man is described as a heavy-set white male, standing at around 5 foot 11. Police say he has hazel eyes, short light brown hair, a moustache, and scars on his left arm and elbow.
Van Braeckel will be residing on Inkerman St .
The Ontario Provincial Police say they’ve issued the warning in accordance with the Police Services Act, citing public safety as their primary concern.
