(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Thursday May 27, 2010 Perth County OPP officers in Listowel were called to a local bank which had received a suspected counterfeit $100 U.S, bill. The bill had been brought to the bank by a local variety store owner who was suspicious about the bills authenticity.
The variety store owner had been handed the bill by an unknown male on the long weekend to purchase inexpensive items. The male received a large amount of change in return. The male was observed being picked up by a passing vehicle upon leaving the store.
The Perth County OPP, wish to warn local merchants and residents to be cautious when dealing with U.S. currency and in particular $100 bills. This is in light of this Listowel incident and a rash of counterfeit $100 U.S, bills that have been used in Wellington County within the past week.
