(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH & ST.MARYS, ON) On Saturday November 29, 2014, between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., off duty Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers and Perth County OPP Auxiliary officers conducted a toy drive for children from less fortunate families.
Marked OPP vehicles were parked in front of the Listowel WalMart and the St.Marys Canadian Tire stores in hopes of filling them with donated unwrapped toys or sports equipment. All items collected would be brought to the local Salvation Army offices in both communities who would ensure that the toys would stay within their designated communities.
In Listowel the generosity of the public allowed the OPP to fill their large prisoner van and two other cruisers packed full with toys. The public also donated $400 in cash which was used to purchase additional toys.
In St.Marys, five OPP cruisers were filled with toys and an additional $480 in cash was donated and used for the purchase of toys.
“I am absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity of the public. Many individuals and families with children made it a point to specifically attend at our locations to drop off a gift. A few children had saved up their allowance during the past months so they could purchase toys for other less fortunate kids. It amazes me time and time again how our communities pull together for these types of eventsâ€Â. Constable Kees Wijnands Perth County OPP.
