9 Drive On Closed Road Charges

(SOUTH BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On Friday March 11th, 2011, strong winds and heavy snow created dangerous conditions for drivers on area roads. The hazardous driving conditions resulted in some area roads being closed, but some drivers chose to ignore the road closed signs. On March 11th, 2011, the South Bruce OPP laid 9 “Drive on closed road” charges. In the case of a winter storm, a road closure is initiated “to prevent injury to persons or damage to property”. A motorist that travels on a closed road not only risks their own safety, but that of emergency crews who are called out to rescue them stranded on a closed road. The penalty for driving on a closed road is a $110 fine and 3 demerit points.
