(ST.MARYS, ON) On Thursday January 10, 2013, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Perth County OPP officers and Perth County ambulance personnel were called to a collision at the intersection of Queen St. East and Wellington Ave. South in St.Marys.
Investigation revealed that an 87 year old female from St.Marys was operating her mobility scooter on the sidewalk west bound on Queen St. East. As she crossed Wellington Avenue South on the green light she was struck by a pickup truck which had been travelling east bound on Queen St. East and turned South onto Wellington Ave. South.
The mobility scooter operator sustained nonlife threatening injuries and was transported to the St.Marys Memorial Hospital. The 82 year old driver of the pickup truck was not injured as a result of this collision. He has been charged with careless driving. The scooter was towed from the scene.
