Location: KITCHENER, ON Canada
Over the course of three days, the Waterloo Regional Police Service conducted a project in the downtown Kitchener core in response to an increase in bicycle thefts in the area. The project consisted of monitoring a bicycle, which was set in areas that officers believed had a reputation for being targeted.
Through the course of three days, seven men and one woman were arrested as they attempted to steal the bicycle. A total of 37 charges were laid, including theft, possession of stolen property, breach of court orders and possession of controlled substances. Police would like to remind the public to be diligent when leaving their bicycles unsupervised and to remember to always lock their bicycles to help prevent thefts.
