76 Year Old Runs Stop Light – 3 Vehicle Collision

No one was injured following a three vehicle collision in the downtown core Sunday morning.

Around 11:10 AM a northbound Kia Sportage being driven by a 76 year-old Owen Sound man entered into the intersection of 9th Street East and 2nd Avenue East against a red traffic signal. The Kia was struck by a westbound Mazda 3 being driven by a 62 year-old Owen Sound man. The force of the impact spun the Kia around and into a Toyota Corolla that was stopped at the intersection. The Kia ran off the roadway and onto the east sidewalk where it hit a decorative garbage bin.

There were numerous pedestrians in the area who were fortunate not to be struck by the vehicle. One man was taken to the hospital by ambulance as a precaution but no one was injured in the crash. The 900 block of 2nd Avenue East and the 200 block of 9th Street East was closed for approximately 40 minutes while police investigated and the scene was cleared. The Owen Sound Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The driver of the Kia has been charged with disobeying a red light.
