(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – On Thursday April 14, 2016, at around 5 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer responded to a call of a vehicle parked on a gravel road east of Mitchell.
The officer located a Ford Edge on the side of Road 160, north of Line 26. A male who appeared to be sleeping was in the driver’s seat of the vehicle while the engine was running. The officer determined that the male in the vehicle displayed signs of impairment. The male was transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.
75-year-old Joseph Peter UNIAC of the Municipality of West Perth was charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences: “care or control while impaired (Alcohol)”, and “care or control over 80 mgs.” He is scheduled to appear at the Stratford Ontario Court of Justice on May 02, 2016, to answer to these charges.
His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his motor vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days.
With all the messaging about the dangers and criminal aspects of drinking and driving, it is disturbing that the act still occurs. The OPP will continue their patrols and regular RIDE programs to stop these drivers, and maintain safe roadways in our communities. The public is encouraged to report impaired and erratic drivers. Calls can be made to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
