73 Year Old Runs Red Light – One Sent To Hospital

On August 13, 2015 at 2:26 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a three vehicle collision at the intersection of Speedvale Avenue West and Dawson Road. Police investigation alleges that a vehicle travelling eastbound on Speedvale Avenue failed to stop for the red light. This driver struck a vehicle on Dawson, rolled onto its driver’s side and slid into the front of a second vehicle stopped at the light facing westbound on Speedvale. The front passenger of the vehicle travelling on Dawson was taken by ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries. Total damage to the three involved vehicles is estimated to be in excess of $30,000.

A 73-year- old Guelph male was issued a summons to appear in court for the offence of Red Light – Fail to Stop.

Hit and run driver arrested

On August 13, 2015 at 8:30 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Woodlawn Road West and Edinburgh Road North for a hit and run collision. It is alleged that the vehicle that left the scene had gone through a red light and struck another vehicle. Witnesses provided information that led police to the responsible driver. At 9:08 p.m., police spoke with the female driver who was located in a parking lot on Woodlawn Road West and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. She failed this test and was arrested.

Andrea Tufts, 30 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg and fail to remain. She was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with fail to stop – red light. She will appear in court on August 28, 2015.

Traffic stop leads to two arrests

On August 13, 2015 at 8:00 p.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Edinburgh Road South near Water Street after observing a traffic violation. Investigation determined that the validation tag on the plate was stolen and that the male driver had tried to mislead police with his identity. Both the driver and his female passenger were arrested.

A 33-year-old Guelph male has been charged with possession of stolen property, obstruct police and breach of probation. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with fail to stop – red light and drive motor vehicle – no licence. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on August 14, 2015.
