72 Year Old Scammed Out Of $3000

Waterloo Regional Police remind the public that phone calls from persons purporting to be from the CRA, Canada Revenue Agency are fraudulent. On May 10, 2016 a 72 year old Kitchener male was contacted by phone and advised he had outstanding tax levies in the amount of $6000.00. It was further explained that if not paid a police officer will be attending his residence to arrest him. This elderly male provided payments in excess of $3000.00 to an account. These phone calls and requests for information are not accurate and a complete scam. If residents receive these calls please do not provide banking or personal information. Legitimate agencies will not ask for banking information or personal information to be provided over the telephone.
