71 Year Old Speeding Drunk Driver Caught

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 71 year old Central Huron resident is facing a court date for Impaired Driving following a traffic stop on May 6, 2015. At approximately 7:12 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck travelling westbound on Huron Road at a high rate of speed. The officer measured the truck’s speed at a rate of speed of 108 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

Upon stopping and speaking with the driver the officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. After further investigation the officer noticed several signs the driver was impaired by alcohol. He was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests.

He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 71 year old Harvey CARTER from Central Huron has been charged with Impaired Operation, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol & Speeding. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on June 15, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
