71 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – On September 15, 2017, at approximately 10:20 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) sobriety check point on Catherine Street, Thames Centre.

A black GMC Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) entered the RIDE check. The vehicle was occupied by a male driver and female passenger.

Officers determined that the 71-year-old male driver of the vehicle had consumed alcohol. The officers made a demand for the driver to provide a breath sample at the roadside. The driver registered a FAIL. He was placed under arrest and transported to a Middlesex County OPP detachment for further breath tests. The breath tests revealed that the driver was over the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

As a result of the police investigation, Richard BOWMAN, of Thames Centre, has been charged with Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC).

The accused’s vehicle has been seized for seven (7) days and his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear (PTA) and is scheduled to answer the charge in a London court on October 16, 2017.
