On Saturday the 3rd of August 2013 at approximately 12:40PM, motorist in the area of Tiffin Street and Ferndale Drive observed a vehicle driving erratically. The vehicle narrowly missed colliding with other vehicles as it left the area. Police were called and provided with the licence plate and description of the car and driver. Police began a search for the suspect vehicle.
At 1:00PM police received a call to Goodwin Drive regarding two pedestrians by a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. Officers attended and discovered that a 29 year old Barrie man and his 7 year old daughter had been struck as the male was teaching his daughter to ride a bicycle on the usually quiet street. The child was wearing a helmet, elbow pads and knee pads at the time. She stated to officers arriving the she never wants to go near another road again. The bicycle was destroyed in the accident. The two pedestrians suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to hospital as a precaution.
A 23 year old Barrie woman was arrested at the scene for Dangerous Driving and Impaired operation of a motor vehicle. She was taken to the Barrie police station for a breathalyzer test and a test for drugs. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending at this time.
