65 Year Old From Belgrave Arrested For Drunk Driving

(NORTH HURON, ON) – A 65-year-old from Belgrave is facing Impaired Driving charges following a traffic stop that took place in Belgrave yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 12:13 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol observed a pickup truck travelling northbound on Queen Street in Belgrave with a driver that was failing to wear his seat belt. The pickup truck was followed and subsequently stopped on Jordan Drive for the seatbelt violation.

Upon speaking with the male driver the investigating officer detected the smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath. Further investigation revealed the driver was displaying several signs of impairment. As a result the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and was transported to the Huron Detachment for breath tests. The driver complied and supplied two breath samples to the Intoxilizer Technician; both tests were above the legal limit.

He was later released from custody with a court date scheduled for June 10, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. His vehicle was impounded and his licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
