6 Traffic Signs Shot

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) –On April 11, 2015, Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of 6 damaged traffic signs along 6 Highway, in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula, ON.

Sometime between the evening of the April 10, 2015 and the morning of April 11, 2015 unknown suspect(s) shot multiple bullets into 6 highway signs. The highway signs are placed along the highway to assist motorist by relaying important safety messages. Each highway sign is to be replaced at a cost of approximately $100, with an estimated total cost $600.00.

Instances where OPP investigate occurrences involving the Careless use of a Firearm section 86 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada may be subject to imprisonment of up to two years for a first offence; with a second offence having a punishment of up to five years imprisonment.

Detachment Commander, Staff Sergeant Wayne Thompson has expressed, “It is unfortunate that someone within the community would vandalize community property, which we will all fund to repair. Further the use of a firearm is such a manner can very easily create a serious safety concern.”
