(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, 0N) Perth County OPP officers have been actively checking motorist for seatbelt compliance during their Spring Seatbelt Campaign. Since the start of the campaign 6000 vehicles have been checked and a total of 51 charges have been laid.
On Monday April 19, 2010 while checking for seatbelt violations in Mitchell a Perth County OPP officer observed a truck whose driver was not wearing his seatbelt. While the officer was speaking to the driver, two children aged 2 & 3 years of age were observed sitting between the driver and passenger seats of the commercial motor vehicle. The driver was given a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt. In addition he received two more tickets for having 2 toddlers not secured in car seats.
The Perth County OPP is continuing to check for seatbelt compliance during this Seatbelt Campaign. Their ultimate goal is to have everyone wear their seatbelts and thereby reduce injuries on our roadways. Why gamble with your life and that of your children?
