50 Cows & 20 Calves Killed In $500,000 Barn Fire

(BROCKTON, ON) – On February 24, 2016 at approximately 9:19 p.m., South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) together with the Elmwood Fire Department County responded to a rural structure fire on Concession 12 in the Municipality of Brockton.

The structure, a large barn housing dairy cattle and farm equipment, was destroyed by the fire. Fifty (50) cows and twenty (20) calves perished as a result. The damage/loss was estimated in excess of $500,000.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time but does not appear to be suspicious.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted.
