(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The Perth County OPP wants to inform the motoring public that they will once again be conducting their “Stop and Look†campaign from Monday November 17th until Friday November 21st 2014.
During this 5 day campaign, officers will be focusing attention on intersection related offences where drivers fail to stop or yield where required. Officers during their available time will focus their attention on all intersections, however a number of specific intersections have been identified as target areas.
In recent days the Perth County OPP has investigated a number of stop sign controlled intersection collisions which all had the potential to be fatal collisions. Drivers need to take our stop sign controlled intersections seriously. “Remember, don’t become a statisticâ€Â.
It is interesting to note the following:
– There was no particular day of the week that showed a spike in these collisions. They happen any day of the week.
– Within Perth County there are over 1,150 intersections. The majority of these rely on stop signs as a traffic control device.
– Many intersections have “two way stops†controlling the crossing of roads with a speed limit of 80 km/h. (Higher speed, result in a greater possibility of serious injury or death collisions).
– At intersections come to a stop, look and don’t be distracted. Driving demands your full attention.
– You’re 4 times more likely to have a crash when you’re distracted while driving.
