(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – A set of fresh footprints in the snow led to the recent arrest of a male that failed to pay his taxi fare. On January 5, 2013 just before 3:00 a.m. Huron OPP officers responded to a call from a taxi cab driver in Wingham regarding a passenger that failed to pay his tab. The driver transported the male from a Wingham address to Howick-Turnberry Road at Gilmour Line. The passenger took off on foot and headed into a woodlot. Police arrived a short time later and were successful in following his footprints in the fresh snow through the woods back to a residence within 100 meters of where he was dropped off.
Police arrested the male on January 8, 2013 for the criminal offence of Transportation Fraud. Police also learned the accused was on conditions to abide by a curfew.
As a result, Justin THOMPSON, age 23, from Morris-Turnberry, is charged with Transportation Fraud, Fail to Comply with a Condition of an Undertaking and Fail to Comply with a Recognizance. He has since been released from custody and has a court date scheduled for February 21, 2013 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham.
