4 Youths Face 14 Charges

The Barrie police responded to a motor vehicle collision reported at 66 Toronto Street. Officers arrived on scene to find the vehicle that had been travelling northbound on Toronto Street from Dunlop had struck the side of the business causing significant damage and pinning the occupant under the dashboard of the vehicle.

The attending officer determined that the driver exhibited some of the classic signs of impairment by alcohol in addition to the fact that he was wearing his shoes on the wrong feet.

The male was taken to hospital to receive treatment for injuries received in the accident and cooperated in supplying a sample of his blood for analysis at a later time.

The male was released on a promise to appear in court on a future date.

Barrie Police received information about a vehicle being driven erratically in a parking lot at Bayfield and Ferndale. A witness reported that 4 youth had exited the vehicle and left the area after the vehicle became incapacitated due to a collision with a curb and small tree.

Investigation revealed that the group of youth had been stealing property from unlocked vehicles in the area and had somehow managed to steal the vehicle in the process. These incidents occurred in the area of Kestrel Court and Osprey Ridge. Anyone who may have had some property stolen is asked to contact PC Tombs at 705-725-7025.

The 4 youths in this incident now face a total of 14 criminal charges.

The Barrie Police are once again reminding the public to lock their vehicles to avoid falling victims to this crime of opportunity. The incidents of vehicle windows being broken to access property are extremely rare in Barrie. This crime can widely be avoided simply by insuring car doors are locked at night.
