(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On Saturday, July 4, 2015, at approximately 11:35 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an injured 4 year old boy at an agricultural residence on Hwy. 89 in the Township of Southgate. Officers were advised that a large farm tractor tire had fallen over, pinning the boy.
The victim was transported by ambulance to hospital where he was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
The investigation is being conducted under the authority of the Coroner’s Office, with the assistance of Grey County OPP and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) under the direction of Acting Detective Inspector Andy Raffay.
The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch is mandated to provide investigative oversight on all death investigations of persons under the age of 5 years.
The Farm Safety Board has been notified.
A post mortem examination is scheduled for Sunday, July 5, 2015, in Hamilton, Ontario.
