On Monday August 8th 2016, Halton Regional Police responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision on Third Line between North Service Road and Abbeywood Drive in the Town of Oakville.
At approximately 12:50pm, a 40-year-old Oakville man was driving northbound on Third Line in a grey Hyundai when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle struck the centre curbed-median then veered across the northbound lanes striking a minivan from behind. The minivan was accelerated forward into a third vehicle which was stopped for a red-light at Abbeywood Drive. The Hyundai continued north until it came to a stop hitting the fourth vehicle involved in the collision which was also stopped for a red light.
The 40-year-old Oakville native was transported to a local hospital where he died shortly after he arrived.
Police do not believe alcohol or speed were factors in the collision. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death, as a pre-existing medical condition may have been a contributing factor in the collision.
The driver of the minivan, a 48-year-old Woodbridge woman was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The other two drivers were not injured in the collision.
The northbound lanes on Third Line were closed for approximately 2.5 hours for the scene investigation.
Any witnesses are asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4747 extension 5065. At the request of the family, the name of the deceased will not be released.
