The London Police Service Traffic Management Unit hosted the 4 Counties Traffic Initiative on Thursday, September 05, 2013. This is an annual event that focuses efforts on several areas of traffic enforcement. Visiting officers from Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service, Woodstock Police Service, Stratford Police Service and St. Thomas Police Service, along with members of the London Police Service, Traffic Management Unit participated in this initiative. A total of seven police officers participated in this initiative.
Given the recommencement of the school year and the wide array of schools in the City of London, the Traffic Management Unit conducted enforcement of aggressive driving, speeding, seatbelts, intersection related offences and the use of cell phones while driving, focusing this enforcement in areas of educational institutions for students of all ages.
During this one-day traffic initiative, officers adhered to a zero-tolerance approach to their traffic enforcement duties. The enforcement day commenced at 9:00 a.m. and ended at 4:00 p.m.
Focused enforcement was conducted at several intersections throughout the city.
As a result of this 4 County Traffic Initiative, the involved police officers laid a total of 80 traffic-related charges, and 10 Compliance Notices. The breakdown of charges is as follows:
Cell phone – 9
Document offences – 1
No licence or suspended – 2
Other (Driving) – 1
Seatbelt – 6
Speeding – 60
Vehicle seizure – 1
