(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST & ST.MARYS, ON) With the arrival of the warm weather and the end of school, Perth County OPP officers have once again noticed an increase of young people wandering the streets late at night.
This past weekend officers apprehended four youths under the age of 16, who were found in public places between midnight and 6 a.m., without being in the company of an authorized responsible adult.
On Friday July 07, 2012 shortly before 2 a.m., officers on patrol observed a 12 and 15 year old boy walking the streets of Milverton. The boys were transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville, the parents were contacted and they retrieved their children. Further investigation determined that the boys had snuck of their homes and were searching the streets looking for discarded cigarette butts for them to smoke.
On Saturday July 08, 2012 around 1:15 a.m. an officer observed two youths under the age of 15 walking through the parking lot behind some businesses on Water St. North in St.Marys. The youths were determined to be 15 years of age. The two boys were “out for a walkâ€Â, their parents were also contacted to retrieve their children.
The Perth County OPP will continue to enforce the provincial curfew which falls under the authority of the Child and Family Services Act. Parents are advised that the onus falls on them to ensure they know where their children are at all times. If they are staying at friends places, be sure this is communicated between parents so you know this to be the case.
