(PERTH COUNTY, ON) The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) conducted their Distracted Driving Campaign from Monday April 15, 2013 until Monday April 22, 2013. This campaign was part of a province wide O.P.P. Distracted Driving Initiative.
The aim of this campaign is to reiterate the dangers of carrying out activities which take your attention away from driving. Texting, handling electronic devices, eating and drinking, personal grooming and tending to children in the backseat are just some of these distractions. During this week long campaign, officers as part of their regular patrols paid extra attention to motorists who were involved in risky behaviours that could result in serious or fatal motor vehicle collisions on our roads.
A total of thirty eight motorists were issued a $155 ticket for distracted related offences in the county. Of the thirty eight motorists, four were charged with having a display screen visible to the driver, while thirty four were charged with driving with hand-held communication device.
As an ongoing effort to save lives on Ontario roads, the Perth County O.P.P. will continue to enforce laws related to distracted driving throughout the year.
Remember, when you drive, put down the phone and leave it alone.
