300ft Of #4 AWG Welding Wire Stolen From Construction Site

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – On Tuesday January 12, 2016, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to the new Mitchell water tower construction site at the corner on Clarke St and Holmes Road, where the theft of electrical wire was discovered.

Investigation revealed that sometime between 4:30 p.m. Monday January 11, 2016, and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday January 12, 2016, an unknown suspect gained entry into the fenced construction site and removed approximately 300ft of #4 AWG welding wire. The welding wire had been located near the welding machines on the site.

The suspect used a vehicle to drive up to the front gate. The suspect then appeared to have walked around to the east side of the fenced compound, where entry was gained.

A similar theft, not reported to police occurred overnight on December 14, 2015, when a 50ft long 220V, 30 Amp extension cord was removed from the site.

The copper value of the stolen wires is approximately $500.
