(PERTH SOUTH, ON) – On Friday January 13, 2017, shortly after 9:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program at the intersection of Perth Road 139 and Road 163 in the Township of Perth South.
A black SUV attempted to avoid entering the RIDE program. The vehicle was located and stopped. While speaking with the driver, police detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. A Roadside Screening Device (ASD) test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and taken to Perth County OPP detachment in Sebringville for further testing. He later provided samples of his breath into an Intoxilyzer and registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 28-year-old Robert MCLAUGHLIN from Perth South has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
He was released from custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on January 30, 2017. He also received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was seized for 7 days.
