(HURON EAST, ON) – A 24-year-old driver from Seaforth will be making a trip to court later this summer after he failed to provide a suitable roadside sample. At approximately 7:30 a.m. this morning a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a Pontiac Bonneville travelling out of Egmondville on Kippen Road at a high rate of speed. The officer used a RADAR device to measure the speed of the vehicle at a rate of speed of 75 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
The vehicle was stopped and upon speaking with the male driver the officer detected the smell of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath. At that point a demand for the roadside screening test was given to the driver for the purposes of determining the concentration of alcohol in his body. The driver ultimately failed to provide a suitable sample for analysis.
As a result, 24-year-old Matthew STEFFLER from Seaforth has been charged with Fail to Provide a Suitable Sample – Approved Screening Device & Speeding. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on July 18, 2016. He was served with an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension.
