(GODERICH & CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 24-year-old female from Goderich is facing criminal charges following an incident that took place in Huron County this past weekend. At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2017 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received information that a female had just taken off from a residence in a stolen vehicle and it was believed she was impaired by a drug.
Officers began patrolling for the suspect vehicle, a black Cadillac CT that was stolen from a property in Goderich. About 10 minutes later, officers located the Cadillac CT travelling eastbound on Huron Road (Highway 8) near Clinton.
A traffic stop was initiated and the driver pulled over without incident. Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer made some observations that led him to believe the driver was impaired. Also, it was learned the driver held a suspended driver’s licence. As a result, the female driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving, Theft of a Motor Vehicle Over $5,000 and Driving While Under Suspension.
The driver was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) evaluated the driver and formed the opinion the driver was impaired by a drug. Consequently, 24-year-old Emily CLARKE from Goderich has been charged with Impaired Driving by Drug, Theft Over $5,000 and Drive While Under Suspension. She was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 6, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
