24 Year Old Caught Going 142 On Hwy 86 Near Listowel – Name Released

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a 24 year old man with racing after police stopped a motor vehicle on Perth Line 86, east of Listowel.

On Tuesday May 31, 2016 just before midnight police observed a West bound motor vehicle that appeared to be travelling at a high rate of speed on Perth Line 86 near Perth Road 147. The vehicle recorded a reading on the police radar of 62 km/h above the posted speed limit of 80 km/h.

Police have charged 24-year-old Philipp SOLEYMANI-KARBALAEI of Kitchener, Ontario with “racing a motor vehicle”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

He is to appear at Provincial Court, in Stratford on June 28, 2016, to answer to the charge. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for seven days and his vehicle was towed from the scene and has been impounded for a week.

Aggressive driving is one of the “Big Four” driving behaviours that contribute to road fatalities in Ontario. The OPP targets dangerous driving behaviour as part of its Provincial Traffic Safety Program (PTSP), in their efforts to save lives.

The Perth County OPP wants to remind motorists that the minimum fine for Stunt Driving, if convicted is $2,000
