(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On October 5, 2012 South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers teamed up with officers from the Grey County OPP, Bruce Peninsula OPP and the Owen Sound Police Service for a joint RIDE initiative at the start of Operation Impact 2012. The officers teamed up to send a joint message: “The criminal act of impaired driving has caused enough death on Ontario’s roads and will not be tolerated in Grey or Bruce Countyâ€Â.
Using the West Region OPP Mobile Command Unit (MCU), RIDE checks were conducted in different locations throughout Grey and Bruce Counties. A total of 2,145 vehicles were checked resulting in 3 Liquor Licence Act charges, 1 Roadside Warn Range suspension, 1 Possession of a Controlled Substance and a charge for Disqualified Driving.
“The attitude that I can have a “couple†of drinks and drive must change. Drinking and driving contributes to serious injury and the loss of life. If you drink don’t drive – the life you save could be your own†– Inspector Scott Smith, detachment commander, South Bruce OPP.
