2,145 Vehicles Checked At RIDE

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On October 5, 2012 South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers teamed up with officers from the Grey County OPP, Bruce Peninsula OPP and the Owen Sound Police Service for a joint RIDE initiative at the start of Operation Impact 2012. The officers teamed up to send a joint message: “The criminal act of impaired driving has caused enough death on Ontario’s roads and will not be tolerated in Grey or Bruce County”.

Using the West Region OPP Mobile Command Unit (MCU), RIDE checks were conducted in different locations throughout Grey and Bruce Counties. A total of 2,145 vehicles were checked resulting in 3 Liquor Licence Act charges, 1 Roadside Warn Range suspension, 1 Possession of a Controlled Substance and a charge for Disqualified Driving.

“The attitude that I can have a “couple” of drinks and drive must change. Drinking and driving contributes to serious injury and the loss of life. If you drink don’t drive – the life you save could be your own” – Inspector Scott Smith, detachment commander, South Bruce OPP.
