21 Year Old Drunk Driver Tries To Avoid RIDE

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 21 year old driver from Central Huron is facing an Over 80 charge after he was stopped on December 14, 2014. Just before 2:30 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police officers noticed a Dodge pickup truck travelling westbound on Huron Road near Orchard Line. Officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint at the intersection when they observed the driver pull off into a private driveway just before the checkpoint. Officers followed the vehicle and stopped the vehicle at a private driveway on Huron Road.

Upon speaking with the male driver officers detected the odour of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath. A roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a fail. He was arrested and subsequently transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both tests registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 21 year old Terrance HIGGS from Central Huron has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on January 19, 2015. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
