21 Year Old Dies In Stolen Plane Crash

Officers with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are investigating the theft of a small airplane from the Markham Airport following a plane crash in the City of Peterborough.

On Friday, August 12, 2016, just before 3 a.m. York Regional Police was contacted by Peterborough Police in regards to a small plane registered to a person residing in Newmarket that had crashed in Peterborough. Officers located the owner of the plane and determined that the plane had been stolen.

The individual responsible for the theft, a 21-year-old man from Markham, was killed in the crash. His name will not be released.

York Regional Police will be working closely with the Peterborough Police Service as well as Transport Canada in this ongoing investigation.
