The City of Owen Sound is pleased to announce the nominees for the sixth annual Owen Sound Cultural Awards. The nominees represent a wide range of artists, groups, and disciplines, reflecting the diversity of Owen Sound arts, culture, and heritage.
The Owen Sound Cultural Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held in the Bay Room at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre on Sunday, February 15. It is a free event, open to the public, with reserved seating for nominees and their guests. The reception begins at 2:00 p.m., and the awards ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. Paul M. Benton will perform a mix of jazz and pop songs on piano before and after the ceremony. Owen Sound Poet Laureate Terry Burns will also make a guest appearance.
The reception includes light hors d’ouevres and a cash bar.
The Owen Sound Cultural Awards are sponsored by the City of Owen Sound through its Cultural Advisory Committee. Individual award sponsors include John A. Tamming Law, Mix 106-5, and the Owen Sound Sun Times. All award winners receive a custom-made marquetry box with a Thomson-esque design, handcrafted by artist Diane Edwards (Mythago Wood Marquetry). The winner of the Emerging Artist award also receives a $500 cash prize.
